Envy is a tricky word to interpret. As mostly envy as seen as jealousy but I think there can be a good side of envy where you're happy for the other person or admire their achievements and strive for higher standards in yourself. This picture is made up from a number of influences Crumb, Guston, Basquiat, Jeff Raglus the list goes on.
The cental painting that the figure is based on is simular to some paintings I’ve done. I’m never really sure where they come from or how to replicate them. So sometimes you can even be envious of parts of yourself.

So, it's a nice, non-bitter kind of envy.

Agree about envy can be positive in regards to striving - this is a great illustration, although don't envy guy's facial feature!

I've found that this envy thing has really blocked my mind badly. I do not usually look at any other illustrations before I do my own, lest I'm influenced by someone else's ideas. Today, demoralised by no inspiration, I decided I just needed to see what others have been doing.

That said, I've been a little, no, a lot disappointed by a lot of the illustrations this week, and that doesn't surprise me seeing the trouble I've had.

Anyway, I really like your illustration for this and have added you to my favourites because I like your overall style after looking at some of your other entries.

And I'm from just up the road from you - Bendigo.

Anthony, I really like this - especially the ear in the painting. I wrote a longer comment but the blog is apparently still eating my comments!
